2008-05-25 : What do you do with all that dirt?
I was just wondering what they do with all the stuff they dig out from under Singapore when they're digging the tunnels for the circle line and stuff. Since they're digging tunnels big enough to fit trains, they must have like a hundred MRT trains' worth of dirt dug out by now. And all those stations that they dig. The amount of stuff they dig out of the ground must be incredible!

So where does it all go? I suppose they stuff it in landfills and forget about it. Apparently they dug up nine million cubic metres of stuff when they built the NEL.

I propose doing something more interesting with all that earth! Like making another bukit timah, or maybe reclaiming more land. Perhaps we could make our own little archipelago, and build condos on them or something. Then everyone could have their own waterfront condo/house/whatever. You could even sell the islands! Imagine, you could own a piece of Singapore.

I wouldn't mind having an island. I'd set up a Yum Cha shop there.
