Pontius Pilate (Latin: Pontius Pilatus, Greek: Πόντιος Πιλάτος) was the governor of the Roman Iudaea province from A.D. 26 until 36. In modern times he is best known as the man who, according to the canonical Christian Gospels, presided over the trial of Jesus and ordered his crucifixion.

Pontius Pilate is credited with the invention of Pilates, a physical fitness system which encourages the use of the mind to control the muscles. He is thought to have first used the exercises of Pilates to relieve stress caused by his daily duties as governor of the province of Iudaea.

Iudaea is a seaside province, and as a result the full and thorough inhalation and exhalation characteristic of Pilates introduced a breath of fresh sea breeze into the body with every exercise, no doubt increasing the effectiveness of the system.

Pilate first conceived the exercises late one night when contemplating logistical arrangements and cauldron sizes for Julius Caesars 51st Annual Fondue party, an empire-wide party of enormous proportions, during which the entire empire would consume nothing but fondue for three days and nights, and the streets would overflow with cheese and bread.

The stress of planning a provincial-level party had Pilate mentally and physically exhausted, and while attempting to twist his body into impossible shapes to relieve his frustration, a light bulb lit over his head and the idea of Pilates was conceived.

The fusion of mind and body embodied in Pilates enabled Pilate to refresh his body and mind, and successfully complete the planning for the party. The Iudaean province is historically well-documented as the province with the most exciting fondue parties in Rome, featuring strippers and world-famous deejay sets.

Pontius Pilate was an influential man, and his influence extends to modern-day automobile naming. The great mans influence is most clearly obvious when one observes the name of one of General Motors most popular brands, or marques. The Pontiac brand was established in 1926 and still sells today.

Pontiac is a mid-level brand featuring a sportier, high-performance driving experience for a reasonable price, and is modeled after Pontius Pilate, who dealt with daily affairs with shocking efficiency and speed, even though his salary was lower than other the governors of other equivalent provinces at the time.

Even though few remember Pontius Pilate today, his legacy continues to have an impact on our world today. Long Live his Legacy!
